Overview of rules

  • All Shared Instrument Facilities are free of charge to Biodesign faculty and staff
  • All equipment is self-serve
  • All instruments are used on a first-come, first-serve basis
  • Access and training for all instruments is coordinated and supported by BEARS
  • Instrumental maintenance and calibration performed by BEARS
  • Lab courtesy rules apply
  • ASU gas safety and instrument-specific training required for Jasco J-815 Spectropolariometer
  • Instrument-specific training required for Nanosight NS300

Overview of tools

Jasco J-815 Circular Dichroism Spectropolarimeter

Measures and quantifies differences in absorption of left and right circularly polarized light in chiral molecules and macromolecular structures.

  • Analyze secondary/tertiary structure or conformation of macromolecules
  • Observe how secondary structure of proteins changes with environmental conditions or on interaction with other molecules
  • Derive structural, kinetic and thermodynamic information
  • ASU gas handling and instrument specific training required
  • Researchers will provide their own cells / cuvettes; recommendations available based on application
